Estradiol/Norethindrone Acetate (Transdermal)
Transdermal Norethindrone Acetate is a medicated patch women can wear to help them raise their estrogen levels. It is usually prescribed to patients who are going through menopause to help reduce symptoms and maintain estrogen levels.
Warnings/Side Effects
Older women–those 65 years of age or older–increase their risk of developing dementia or other memory problems if they take this medication. This medication should not be prescribed to help boost memory; it should only be prescribed to help boost estrogen levels. Women should take the lowest dose possible to avoid this side effect and other negative side effects.
Similarly, this medication should not be prescribed to protect against heart disease. It can cause blood clots, heart attacks and strokes in women who smoke, especially women over the age of 35.
