Gadobenate

Patients who are having an MRI might receive a gadobenate injection beforehand. Gadobenate is used for contrast; it helps doctors see lesions and other abnormalities on brain or spinal tissue.

Side Effects/Warnings

Patients who have problems eliminating the drug from their body might develop Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis, or NSF. Patients who have kidney disease are at greatest risk of this problem. All patients should be screened for kidney problems before being given this drug, and patients should only be given gadobenate if no alternative to MRIs exists.

Patients who have serious problems such as heart disease or seizure disorders may have health problems after taking this medication. There have been isolated incidents in which patients with seizure disorders had a seizure while on the medication.
