Iopamidol
Iopamidol is an iodine-containing substance that is often injected into patients prior to a CT scan. The iodine creates extra contrast on the scan by absorbing x-rays. This makes tumors and other abnormalities easier to see.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients need to drink a lot of fluids both before and after taking this medication. This medication can cause severe dehydration, leading to kidney failure, especially in patients who are over the age of 65.
Patients who have an active infection should not take this medication.
If you have asthma, hay fever or allergies, you may have an allergic reaction to this medication and have difficulty breathing.
