Mycophenolate sodium
Patients who have a kidney, heart or liver transplant may be prescribed mycophenolate sodium. This medication interferes with normal immune system functioning so that the body doesn’t attack and damage the transplanted organs. Patients take this medication orally twice a day on an empty stomach.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients should not take this medication if they are pregnant. This medication causes severe and often fatal birth defects and may trigger a miscarriage in your first trimester of pregnancy.
You are at increased risk for infection while on this medication. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any signs of infection such as:
- Fever
- Chills
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
