Patients who have surgery to help eliminate prostate cancer take Nilutamide after their surgery. This medication stops prostate cancer cells from growing and multiplying by blocking the effects of a male hormone called androgen.
This medication can cause a life-threatening lung disease. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any symptoms like these:
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
Patients with a history of lung disease are at greater risk of developing lung problems as a result of taking this drug. All patients should get a chest x-ray and pulmonary function tests prior to beginning this treatment to ensure that their lungs are healthy enough to handle treatment.
