Pentazocine/naloxone

Pentazocine is a narcotic painkiller that is used to relieve patients of moderate to severe pain. This medication works by blocking pain impulses to the brain so that patients no longer feel pain while under its influence.

Side Effects/Warnings

This medication has potential for abuse. It is often mixed with naloxene in order to stop patients from getting high off it and discourage abuse of the drug. This medication should be taken only orally; injecting it can cause serious health problems and may be fatal.

Since this medication is a narcotic drug, patients risk addiction when they take it, especially if they have a past history of narcotic drug addiction. Use it only as directed; don’t change your dose or take the medication more often than prescribed without talking to your doctor.
