Tinzaparin is often prescribed to patients following hip or knee surgery. This medication prevents blood clots from forming in the legs after this type of surgery. Tinzaparin may also be used to treat blood clots that have formed deep in the veins.
Patients who are undergoing treatment for spinal injuries or conditions should not take this medication. This medication interacts negatively with spinal anesthesia and spinal puncture therapy. If it is taken while undergoing this type of procedure, it can cause hematomas in the spine, resulting in long-term or permanent paralysis. If you are on this medication, contact your doctor immediately if you experience weakness, tingling or inability to move your legs.
