Tipranavir is prescribed along with other medications in order to combat the HIV virus. This medication slows the spread of the disease throughout the body. It doesn’t cure patients of HIV or stop them from transmitting the disease; it also doesn’t treat HIV-related infections.
Do not take this medication if you are on statin drugs to lower your cholesterol. Tipranavir and other protease inhibitors interact negatively with statin drugs, causing serious damage to the kidneys.
This medication doesn’t prevent HIV transmission. Use condoms or other forms of protection against sexually transmitted diseases if you have sex while on this medication.
This medication can cause bleeding in the brain. If you experience any unusual bleeding or bruising anywhere in your body while on Tipranavir, contact your doctor immediately.
