Cialis

Cialis is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It works by relaxing muscles and it increases the blood flow to particular areas of the body. Cialis has also been used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a conditions where the prostate gland becomes enlarged. Cialis was approved by the FDA in 2003 and in manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company.

In 2005, a study linked popular erectile dysfunction drugs to serious side effects. These drugs were thought to cause non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Men usually began to experience symptoms of NAION 36 hours after taking the drug. This condition consists of the optic nerve not receiving an adequate about of blood supply, causing vision loss. Patients who experience NAION describe poor vision in one eye after waking up from sleep. Victims may also describe dark brown shadows or haze that obscured the upper or lower part of the eye. No effective treatment for NAION has been found, although most men do not suffer complete vision loss. Cialis’ label failed to mention the risk of this condition and some men have even experienced blindness because of the drug.

Cialis has also been linked to reports of hearing loss. After receiving multiple reports of hearing loss in 2007, the FDA investigated the claims. The agency recommended a label change on Cialis prescriptions that warned more prominently about the risks involving hearing loss and included a guide for consumers on what to do if hearing loss occurs.
