Nabumetone

Patients who suffer from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis sometimes take Nabumetone. Nabumetone is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID–it helps relieve pain, tenderness and soreness by inhibiting the body’s ability to produce a natural substance that contributes to inflammation.

Side Effects/Warnings

Taking this medication increases the patient’s risk of heart attack or stroke. This is especially true for patients who have a history of heart disease or who have family members who suffer from heart disease, although anybody can have a fatal stroke or heart attack while on this medication. Patients who have had coronary bypass surgery within the last two years cannot take this medication because of the risk to their heart. Patients should also avoid this medication immediately before having this type of surgery.

Nabumetone also increases the risk of serious stomach problems such as ulcers and gastrointestinal perforation. Contact your doctor immediately if you have severe stomach pain or blood in your stools.
